Thank You!
On Sunday, 18 May 2025, the trails at The Big Red Barn came alive with heart, purpose, and community.
To every rider, runner, walker, donor, sponsor, and volunteer — thank you. Your participation in the Road to Dresden Fundraiser helped raise both funds and awareness for three inspiring South African transplant athletes: Billy, Jan, and Iaan.
Because of your support, they’re now one step closer to representing South Africa at the World Transplant Games 2025 in Dresden, Germany — a global celebration of life, resilience, and second chances.
The day was filled with energy, emotion, and connection — and every contribution, no matter how small, made a real difference.
From the Redline Rides team and the athletes you’re helping — thank you for moving with purpose.

Why We Move
Three incredible South Africans. Three second chances.
In August 2025, Billy, Jan and Iaan will represent South Africa at the World Transplant Games in Germany — a global celebration of life, hope, and the power of organ donation.
These athletes have not only fought for their lives, they’ve earned their place on a world stage. But qualifying isn’t enough — each of them must self-fund the journey to Germany, and it comes at a significant cost.
That’s why we’re moving — walking, running or cycling.
We’ve organised this purpose-driven fundraiser to help turn their invitation into reality and to raise awareness of organ and tissue donation.
This is your chance to ride for something bigger — to show up, be part of a life-changing story, help these heroes cross the start line in Dresden, and become a donor.
Join us at The Big Red Barn on Sunday, 18 May 2025 for an unforgettable morning of trails, community, and purpose.
Your entry includes trail access, a hearty breakfast, a photo opportunity, and the chance to say, “I helped get them there.”
Meet the Recipients
Billy, Jan, and Iaan aren’t just athletes. They’re transplant recipients — people who’ve stared down illness, fought back to life, and now carry a powerful story of resilience and second chances.

Billy Macleod
Cyclist
Billy, a lifelong cyclist and sports lover, received a heart transplant in September 2022. Before that, even walking through a mall was a struggle. Today, he’s not just riding again — he’s riding with purpose.
“My transplant was God-sent. I honour my donor by living fully, pushing myself, and sharing the message that transplants give life,” he says. Representing South Africa at the World Transplant Games is Billy’s dream — and his way of proving what’s possible.
“Live, love, and be blessed. Life’s too short to live with regrets.”

After eight years of kidney failure and a difficult dialysis routine, Jan received a life-changing kidney transplant — donated by his wife, Ingrid.
“She gave me a second chance at life,” he says. To honour her gift, Jan joined SATSA and set himself the goal of competing at the World Transplant Games. Staying active helps him care for his donated kidney and inspires others to do the same.
“Life on dialysis is tough. The transplant gave me back a fairly normal life — and I want to use it to spread hope and goodwill.”

Iaan Burden
Golfer
Diagnosed with end-stage renal failure in 2011, Iaan spent years undergoing dialysis before receiving a kidney transplant from a deceased donor in 2014. That gift gave him the freedom to live actively again — something he never takes for granted.
“Not having to attend dialysis almost every second day is a blessing,” he says. After facing multiple health setbacks, Iaan turned to golf and fitness to rebuild his strength. Now, he’s proud to join a team of transplant recipients to honour their donors and raise awareness.
“Please listen to our stories and spread the message. Organ donation saves lives — I’m proof.”
The Gift of Life
Organ and tissue donation is a powerful act of hope.
In South Africa, thousands of people are waiting for a second chance at life through transplant — but awareness and registration remain far too low.
Many people don’t realise that just one donor can save or improve the lives of more than 50 others. By raising awareness, we help break the stigma, educate families, and encourage more South Africans to register as organ and tissue donors.
This fundraiser doesn’t just help Billy, Jan, and Iaan get to the World Transplant Games — it helps spread the message that transplants work. That second chances are real. And that we all have the power to help.
Organ Donor Foundation (ODF)
The Organ Donor Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to raising awareness about organ and tissue donation in South Africa. Through national education campaigns, donor registration drives, and public engagement, the ODF empowers South Africans to register as donors and talk openly about the gift of life.
Hero777
Hero777 is a national awareness campaign that encourages South Africans to become everyday heroes by registering as organ, tissue, blood, and stem cell donors. With a focus on education and accessibility, the campaign promotes informed choices and aims to grow the national donor registry across communities.
South African Transplant Sports Association (SATSA)
SATSA is a non-profit body that organises sporting events and represents transplant recipients at the World Transplant Games. The association celebrates life after transplant and inspires others through the achievements of athletes who’ve overcome life-threatening illness. SATSA also plays a key role in promoting organ donor awareness and supporting the transplant community.
PathCare
PathCare is a leading pathology service provider in South Africa, offering diagnostic testing and support across the healthcare system. In addition to their clinical work, PathCare actively supports health awareness initiatives — including organ donation. They’ve partnered with campaigns like TELL to provide free kidney health screenings and promote early detection of chronic illnesses. Their involvement helps educate the public and encourage informed conversations around organ and tissue donation.
